According to BBC Microsoft has fixed a serious bug in its Hotmail webmail services that allowed a hacker to reset the password for a Hotmail account.

Samsung Electronics has overtaken Nokia to become the world's largest maker of mobile phones, according to research firm Strategy Analytics.

Virgin Media throttles broadband speeds by up to half

Virgin Media has put a traffic management policy in place which could throttle its broadband customers' download speeds by up to half.

The updated policy was brought into place yesterday and will throttle both download and upload speeds if users go beyond a usage allowance. If the cap is broken then a speed reduction will take place for five hours.

Privacy backlash over Girls Around Me mobile app

An app that allowed users to find nearby women who had "checked in" on a social network has been withdrawn by its developer after complaints.

Russian developer i-Free removed its Girls Around Me app which used publicly available data from Foursquare.
